Hi Rodrigo. Thank you very much for your kindness. First of all, how
would you introduce Amos to our readers? Tell them something
about your story.
Well, I understood God´s purpose to my life in 1994; I was kind of
 happy
and I wanted so much to be able to lead this message to the people. In
that very same year I met a guy who had just arrived in my city, he was
also Christian and liked metal, so he invited me to start a band of
Christian metal. We started REHEARSAL AND WRITE … Soon we began to take
part in festivals, we recorded our first demo tape; we´ve received good
reviews from the metal magazines and as the time passed each work
recorded we improved ourselves and got mature always pursuing original
sonority as it has been nowadays. Since 1994 many musicians have been
part of Amos and I´ve been the only one from the first formation.
Nowadays we´ve been one of the precursor bands of the Brazilian
Christian Metal.
Amos is the name of a prophet... Why did you choose this name for
your band?
We needed a name, we wanted a strong and small name wich wasn´t in
English… one day I was thinking of the Amos Book wich is in the Bible
and I thought …Amos… sounds small and strong… so we decided to name it
Amos.
How much is christianity important for your musical project? And why did
you choose this way to spread the Gospel?
We found in Jesus life,
 in
his teaching, peace, real life and salvation. We can´t separate our
faith from
our music, because we live our faith and our songs manifest it, our
thinking and actions now with Christ´s life in us. We´ve chosen to
spread the word of God through our music as well. Simply because it is
the best we can do, it´s the best we have to offer him who gave us life.
In your lyrics we don't find epic battles against demons but every day
struggles.... And I think they are very poetical words. Do you write
them before music or vice versa?
This is a good question, I´ve always been asked about it. It´s weird but
normally I write both at same time, when I start thinking about a theme
for the song the melody just is born along it.
I find your releases cover very evocative and meaningful images... Who
cares about this aspect?
We´ve tried to follow what the musical style requires. Gothic sometimes
is sombre and dark, we´ve tried to show what that musical style asks
for, but honestly
 we´ve
been more concerned about the songs, if they are well written, if they
will stir emotions, if they are genuine.
Regarding musical level, which bands (christian or not) have influenced
you more?
I believe that all bands from the same style as ours have The Paradise
Lost as a great influence. Also 80´s bands as well as Sisters of Mercy,
Depeche Mode, U2…
Your style has been changing during the years, so I would like to ask
you: do you still recognize yourselves in your first songs?
Of course as I´ve said we´ve been getting mature musically and we´ve
never got caught in only one style,
but in our albums there is something in common among them. There are
songs more like heavy metal, more prog, more gothics… but all of them
have Amos essence. Have you already notice how hard is to compare us to
other bands?? I love it…. lol
You've been playing on stage for a long time: are the sensation you
prove still the same?
Yep, I love playing, traveling with the band, the
 touch
with public, the fans, it´s has always been exciting to be able to make
people happy, stir emotions with songs from my heart, with lyrics which
were remarkable for me and now are for them as well.
Why did you decided to launch "Lost Essence" free on the internet? It
was a good idea, given the number of people who downloaded the Ep (3000
downloads only in 2006)...
In Brazil there is no culture to buy EPs. We were in transition and we
wanted to do something very different from A matter of time which is
heavy-prog-gothic metal. So we decided to put MP3 on our website for
free download in order to show Amos new moment, more gothic. It worked,
thousands of downloads, thanks God.
In Brasil, we all know, there's a wide christian music scene. Which
bands are you in contact with?
We are one of the precursos Brazilian Christian Metal Bands, one of the
few which are still working. We´ve already played with many bands, but
the band that we are closer is Death Poems from São Paulo.
In the future, would you like to take part in a European Festival like
Elements of Rock or Nordic Fest?
For sure, I think it´s what´s still lacking . We´ve already played in
big festivals with great metal international names such as Angra, Bride,
Seventh Avenue… but
it has always been here in our country. We need someone to intervene
with these festivals, but surely it would be so good, who knows?? Maybe
it happens soon!!
We are waiting for your new album... What do we have to expect?
We´ve just launched our first acoustic work called Amos Acoustic, it´s
an EP and it has already been well accepted among our fans. We´ve been
mixing our new album called Jade, I´m very glad with this work, it's
mature, modern, heavy, gothic… the art cover is very beautiful and I
believe it´ll be a complete work, it will pleasure every fans of the
style.
