Sorpresa che approda sulle rive del metal cristiano
giungendo dall'estremo oriente, e per di più da un paese dal modesto
retroterra metallico, gli Efreet sono un giovane quintetto di
sudcoreani dedito ad un professionale US power in stile Rob Rock,
il cui debut full-length "God Of Fire" è proprio al celebre
christian project che si ispira esplicitamente, sia per le composizioni
come pure per la timbrica vocale del dotato Hwangbo Hwan.
Ci si addentra nell'opera tra fiamme ardenti, enfatiche chitarre e
mid-tempo poweroso, con la intro strumentale Storm, tutta
la stilistica canonica e stilemizzata del power statunitense emerge fin
dalla subentrante Efreet, e mai ci si discosterà troppo da
tale trend-mark compositivo. In Chaos (There's a pain on
endless desire, / Nobody knows the reason for their race / I'm searching
for the light, Waiting for eternity, / Chasing the tale of fading time.
/ Where is my dream? Where is my home? / Time has gone with my soul),
dal gustoso bridge melodico, tutto rimanda a Rob Rock, e non
diversamente si può dire delle successive, per quanto buone, Into
the light (In this world I lost again / Living in darkness and
killing myself / And then he said, "Searching for Light, / Angels will
holds you again. / I find some dream in my mind / When I look up to
eternal sky / It makes me realize and raise my soul again / Open your
eyes, why don't you see? / Fly to the sky for your heart and your
destiny / Don't give up feel the wind Fly high again / Spread your wings
trying to fly out of the darkness and / Find your self inside of you,
Fly into the light), Out of the world e Pygmalion,
dove l'assolo è affilato e pienamente convincente. Coordinate più
orientate ad un power metal classico stile Helloween per
Illusion of life, nella pomposa e corale Universe
la precipua matrice si fanno gli Edguy. A chiudere questi
gradevoli 37 minuti arriva la migliore traccia del platter, Moon
palace, semiballad dal refrain catchy su chitarroni massivi,
candidata con buone chances ad essere l'autocolonna sonora della vostra
prossima doccia.
Disco ben prodotto ed eseguito, non brilla
l'originalità compositiva come pure il comparto solistico, piuttosto
ordinario, ma nel complesso pur senza essere eccessivamente incisivi i
nostri sfornato un lavoro che lascia ben sperare per il futuro artistico
dell'ensemble asiatico. Il ricco scacchiere del power metal cristiano
può dunque contare su un nuovo valido alfiere.
